I’m a self-declared germ phobe. (yes Microsoft Word I know that’s not a real word so enough with the red underlining).
Everyone who knows me knows I always have a bottle of hand sanitiser with me. I have one in every handbag, one in each car and spare ones littered throughout the house. I don’t think I’m even convinced they work but it makes me feel better when the kids have been playing in a kids indoor play area or using a public toilet, that I put something on their hands if we can’t wash them.
(I can hear my mum rolling her eyes from here)
Then last week a new hand sanitising product flashed on my Facebook feed promising “24-hour protection”.
Shut up and take my money.
According to their website, Stayzon is a revolutionary hand sanitiser – one that is alcohol-free and the only product on the market that stays on for 24 hours, even after washing. Other sanitisers last only a short while – a few hours at most. They don’t work once hands are washed and the alcohol in them can irritate skin, and mess with your hormones. The business claims Stayzon is equivalent to 2,500 applications of traditional hand sanitisers.
There are 2 sizes – one 15ml spray perfect for the handbag, and 200ml foam perfect for the family. I bought them at Woolworths and paid $7 for the spray and $13 for the foam. (Yes, of course, I purchased both)
So how does it work?
According to their website, this revolutionary coating kills 99.99% of germs and bacteria via a mechanical process rather than poisoning or dehydrating germs, diminishing the growth of super bugs. Stayzon dries onto the skin in seconds, creating a microscopic defence that penetrates the bacteria, mould, fungus and germs it comes into contact with, for 24 hours. This antimicrobial layer does not wash off through normal hand washing and it is safe to use around children and pets.
Now…I know I will get emails from followers who are going to tell me about the benefit of germs and our over sanitised generation. Great, thanks for that. Next time my kids have gastro, I’ll drop them over to your house.
What I can tell you is it smells nice, it’s easy and it’s quick drying.
And I feel like a germ resistant superhero.
